Playing With Galatians 5:22–23 isn’t just a motto, it’s the heartbeat of the Missouri Mighty Piranhas Volleyball Program.

We exist to provide homeschool athletes and private school athletes whose schools do not offer volleyball a place to grow in skill, character, and community through competitive volleyball.

Our program is built on the foundation of Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV):

Galatians 5:22-23
Fruit of the Spirit

Those words guide everything we do, on and off the court. We work to develop athletes who play with excellence while also showing:

  • Love and joy in victory

  • Peace and patience in adversity

  • Gentleness and goodness in their interactions

  • Faith, humility, and self-control as they grow into strong leaders

We believe in building a competitive environment that is also nurturing and values-driven, helping athletes become not only great players, but great people. Whether you’re homeschooled or attending a private school without a volleyball option, you’re welcome here. Come be part of the Piranha family and play with purpose.

Strong Teams. Strong Values. Become A Piranha!

The National Christian Homeschool Championships (NCHC) is the premier postseason platform for Christian homeschool athletes across the country. With a strong emphasis on integrity, eligibility, and Christ-centered sportsmanship, the NCHC hosts District, Regional, and National events that unite homeschool teams for high-level, mission-driven competition.

The Missouri Mighty Piranhas proudly follow the official NCHC eligibility guidelines to ensure our athletes meet the highest standards of homeschool athletic participation. Our program is committed to honoring both the letter and spirit of NCHC rules as we compete and grow through this exceptional homeschool sports community.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What defines a Homeschool Student-Athlete? According to NCHC Member Organizations, a homeschool student's education is directed by parents and conducted primarily at home. This entails direct parental involvement in the child's education, akin to a headmaster's role, which includes selecting curriculum, approving course materials and study schedules, and choosing tutors, co-ops, teachers, dual enrollment options, and educational resources. It's essential to note that for legal purposes, a person of responsibility for the student can fill the parental role, subject to pre-approval by the NCHC. For more detailed information regarding the definition of a Homeschool Athlete, we encourage you to refer to the NCHC Eligibility Guidelines. Should you have further inquiries, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Can non-homeschooled players join the Mighty Piranhas Volleyball Teams? Yes, we welcome private school athletes who attend a school without an athletic program, in addition to homeschooled athletes. We specialize in competitive homeschool volleyball and invite eligible players, including private school athletes meeting this criteria, to try-out for our teams. If you're interested and qualify, reach out to us to join our passionate volleyball community! Note: If you meet this criteria you will have to complete a Hardship Form with the NCHC before your athlete will be able to play with the team. We usually ask that this form be completed immediately after the athlete has been accepted on a Piranhas Team.

Are students who take online classes through a public school district considered homeschooled? Answer: No. If a student is enrolled in online school provided by their public school district, they are not considered homeschooled, even if the classes are taken at home.

Can a homeschooled athlete take classes outside the home (like co-ops or vocational schools)? Answer: Yes, as long as at least 51% of the student’s education is parent-directed and meets the NCHC’s definition of homeschooling. Classes at co-ops, umbrella schools, and vocational programs are acceptable under this guideline.

Can a student play on more than one team within the same organization? Answer: Yes, during the regular season. But at NCHC events, a player may only play for one team per age group.

What is the age cut-off for NCHC eligibility? Answer: Age eligibility is based on the athlete’s age as of August 1st of the season year. For example, if a player turns 17 on August 1st, they are still eligible for the 16U division.

What ages does the Mighty Piranhas Homeschool Program accept on their teams? We welcome athletes entering 5th through 12th grade! - Elementary Team: 5th–6th grade - Junior High Team: 7th–8th grade - Junior Varsity & Varsity Teams: 9th–12th grade Whether you're just getting started or looking to compete at a high level, there’s a place for you in the Mighty Piranhas Homeschool Program!

What do the team fees pay for? The Mighty Piranhas Volleyball team fees help cover the essential costs required to run a competitive and high-quality program. While we work hard to keep fees reasonable, some personal items may still need to be purchased separately. Team fees include: - Facility rental for practices and home games - Training and development expenses - Team equipment - Tournament entry fees - Coach’s travel and lodging expenses - Administrative and operational costs - Uniforms (jerseys) These fees ensure that each athlete receives a well-organized and professionally run season, with access to quality coaching, facilities, and competition.

Are deposits and team fees refundable? No. Deposits and team fees are non-refundable. Acceptance timeline: Acceptance letters are emailed within 24 hours of tryouts. Athletes have until 12:00 PM on July 11 to accept their offer. Deposit: Once accepted, a $200 non-refundable deposit is due. Remaining balance: The remaining balance, or a confirmed payment plan, must be secured by Monday, August 3. Why it’s non-refundable: Once an athlete accepts a roster spot, we begin committing funds on their behalf, including uniform orders and other team-related expenses that are purchased or reserved immediately.

Are boys allowed to play on girls teams or are girls allowed to play on boys teams? To prioritize the safety, fairness, and development of all our athletes, the Mighty Piranhas Homeschool Program maintains separate teams for boys and girls based on biological birth gender. We believe this approach best supports the physical differences and coaching needs unique to each gender. Athletes are eligible to participate only in the gender division that matches their birth gender, as documented on their original birth certificate. This policy is consistent with the eligibility standards set by organizations like the National Christian Homeschool Championships (NCHC), which governs postseason play and does not allow co-ed teams. (From the NCHC Eligibility Guidelines: “A player is only eligible to play in the gender division that the player was born, as recorded on their original birth certificate. There are no co-ed teams at Nationals and/or NCHC-run postseason events. No exceptions.”)
